A canvas backpack has many uses and is possibly one of the most versatile types of bags. They come in many colors to suit any tastes but the black canvas backpack is one of the most popular as it fits with almost any style. Canvas is often used as it is strong, flexible and lightweight.
A canvas rucksack is usually used for hiking, camping or other activities that require large amounts of supplies to be carried for long periods. Rucksacks will usually be quite large with thick straps and larger ones should have a belt to distribute weight away from the shoulders. They are cheap and efficient and may also be used for sports activities.
Another type of bag, the canvas drawstring backpack may also be used in sports as it is generally slightly smaller and more lightweight and does not usually include a belt strap. It is useful for carrying equipment, clothing and sports gear. It may also be used for camping or other trips where a small amount of clothing needs to be transported.
A waxed canvas backpack usually has a natural wax coating that leaves the fabric soft and shower resistant. Waxed canvas can be used in any type of bag design and is preferable for outdoor activities or travel. It will resist a small amount of water but is usually not submersible.
Similar to a messenger bag, a canvas laptop backpack is a light and convenient way to transport your computer. It is very similar to a canvas messenger bag but will usually be a better fit and may be reinforced to protect the laptop. It may include a handle on the top in addition to the single shoulder strap a messenger bag should have.
A leather canvas backpack is made from two types of fabric, leather, and canvas. Leather may be used to strengthen the canvas on the corners, seams or straps and gives a very stylish look. Bags that consist mostly of leather with some canvas will be much heavier than a pure canvas backpack.
A hemp backpack may be preferred by those who enjoy eco-friendly products. Hemp is a natural material that is widely used to make clothing, bags and other products. Not all hemp fabric will consist of 100% hemp so it is sensible to check the label if you prefer a completely organic product. Hemp backpacks will usually be lined to help strengthen the fabric and they will have often have a slightly rougher texture than canvas.
Caring for your hemp or canvas backpack is simple and efficient. Both fabrics can safely withstand most washing powders and fairly high temperatures. Machine washing is generally safe for most types of the bag but try to remove straps and attachments if possible and turn the bag inside out to avoid any tangles. A waxed canvas backpack should be washed with more care. Lightly brush the surface to remove dirt and if washing is necessary use a gentle detergent and cold water to handwash the bag.
